While traveling as a family has been wonderful — I particularly love watching Max and Zoe interact with, and take stock of, each new City and Country — traveling/living on top of each other 24/7 can take a toll… which is to say, I can be overbearing and demanding, and the family deserves a break from me! With that epiphany in mind, I started my day with the thought that I would give the family a break from me, and the frenetic pace I have been setting, and I would just set out on my own to explore more of Hong Kong.
While Max and Jackie were legitimately happy for the respite, Zoe was having none of it. She didn’t want to stay in the apartment… and so she joined me on our no-idea-where-we’ll-go walkabout through Hong Kong island. We started by taking a different ferry from our Kowloon bay-side to a different port on HK island.

We disembarked at North Pier, and sought out a dim sum restaurant recommended by my savvy world-traveler brother, Stephen. He suggested Tim Ho Wan, an inexpensive-yet-Michelin-rated restaurant in Hong Kong. The food WAS really quite good! For the foodies, here’s a sampling:
While we’re on the topic of food, Hong Kong, like much of Asia, has wonderful food markets featuring all manner of fresh fish and other (thoroughly un-appetizing) foods, which seem to be on sale at just about every street corner of the city…
In all, Zoe and I walked about 3½ to 4 miles of Hong Kong, just taking in the various districts, shopping, parks and life of the city. (We didn’t encounter any protests today, which seem to have died down a bit since earlier in the week). Below are a few shots of places we encountered along our walk.
Later in the day, Max, Jackie and I ventured back out for a meal, a final ferry across Victoria Harbour, and a walkabout. All in all, Hong Kong has been a wonderful place to visit.
Tomorrow we fly to Chiang Mai, Thailand!
