After 24 waking-hours of travel (albeit, some of it VERY comfortable), we have arrived in Japan. We are staying in a tiny apartment above a Ramen shop (delicious ramen, btw) in an older part of Tokyo called Asakusa. It is very near the famous Sensoji-Temple, with tons of backstreet shops (away from the touristy Nakamise shopping street). Below are a few of the “highlights” from our first full day in Tokyo.
Here (below) are a few shots of the airbnb decampment for the first 2 days… then on to the Capsule Hotel for the “experience.”
This morning, we started our day with a visit (below) to the Sensoji Temple, famous buddhist shrine, and surrounding Asakusa neighborhood with tons of small shops. Just as I remember it from about 25+ years ago when I lived here.
For lunch, I took the family to one of the iconic “conveyor belt sushi” places (below) – it was actually really good! The kids and Jackie are really taking to all the different types of food/drink/experiences really well.
After lunch, we visited the Asahi Brewing headquarters (one of the taller buildings in Asakusa area) to enjoy a snack (beer for me) and a view of Tokyo that really gives you a sense of how dense, densely-populated, and “mega” the City of Tokyo truly is!
And a few additional random shots from our arrival through the end of the first night — Ramen at the shop just below our airbnb was pretty awesome — and the rest of our sightseeing experiences through the end of our first full day.
