Last Tango in Paris

Yes, I know — based on the movie — there is a colorful association with the title of this blog, but it bears no resemblance to our last day & night in Paris — I just like the title. Paris is such an architecturally and aesthetically beautiful place, that we (well, some of us) spent our last day just walking around the city to see the sights. We hit the Louvre, the Tuileries, the Champs Elysees, the Arc de Triomphe, and ended the day with a lovely night cruise along the Seine. Photos of the day follow, in order of sight/event.

The Louvre: We tourists failed to check the schedule, and so what looked like promising super-short lines was, in actuality, just closed. We still enjoyed the walk around and study of the magnificent buildings and statutes.

Jardin des Tuileries:

Champs Elysees & Arc de Triomphe: No matter how many times I walk this grand boulevard, it always impresses.

Finding macaroons and “home”: We walked from the Arc back to our apartments, a nice 45 minute stroll. Along the way we found the Presidential Palace (home to Pres. Macron), some macaroons, Place Vendome, and the Canadian Embassy (our “home,” though they refused to grant me citizenship or into the embassy even though I was wearing my authentic Canadian hat!).

Our last meal in Paris: The Suesses and Osburn-Osbopps (or, as we like to call ourselves, the Clampetts (Suess) and Griswolds (Osburn-Bopp) just grabbed a bite at one of the innumerable cafes in the neighborhood we stayed.

Night cruise up the Seine: We ended our day and our time in Paris with a night cruise up the Seine. Putting aside the rather frustrating efforts to get to it (we used the metro, only to find that two of the Metro lines were “down” and unavailable), it was a great way to end the day. Once on the boat, the kids promptly found seats as far away from the parents, which (after 46 days of travel in close quarters) was fine with me; but it was less fine with Kevin, who apparently still likes his children. 😉

The next day we set off via high-speed TGV train to Barcelona… but that will follow in the next post.
